If we could describe the 80s in one word, I think the most appropriate is extra. To this day, we have not seen any other era in which the colour, the exaggerated hairstyles, the giant sleeves and the combinations of patterns are as common and representative as in this one.
To celebrate those years of fun and rebellion in the world of fashion, I've created a list with some of the most relevant fashion icons, either because of their peculiar style or because of their taste in clothing, have remained as references of that era.
Hello Charmers and welcome to this week´s post! Now, this week post is about my favorite thing in the world and that is fashion for that I want you to picture this: An 80s blazer, over a white lace nightie, with an upturned fruit basket on your head, punk choker and square sunglasses. I know what you’re thinking: I wouldn’t dress like this if even if someone paid me to but the fun part is that, without even trying we will be dressing like this. Not this week or even the next one but at some point we will fall in line with the 2017 Milan trends because the outfits seen on the runway will have a huge impact in what we wear everyday.
Colors, textures, prints and garments: We make a tour of the trends that are coming
From September 7th to the 15th, New York became again the world capital of fashion. During these days we could observe the new proposals that the designers have created for next summer. From New York's creations by Donna Karan to the dramatic dresses of Zac Posen or the elegant creations of Carolina Herrera and Angel Sánchez, who will populate the red carpet over the next few months, through the longed-for Manolo Blahnik shoes that will be displayed in a gallery of Chelsea. All this, plus an endless turn of It Girls and other pretty faces, is what awaits us in a week full of fashion.
But what about the presence of Spanish figures and designers? We can say that, year after year is consolidating, let's not forget that this was the third time DelPozo paraded in New York led by the creativity of Joseph Font. In the same way, Desigual was one of the most photographed moments when he opened his parade with recognized international models. Pedro del Hierro also pointed to the event with a parade in which the proposals of Carmen March for the firm were shown, thus demonstrating that Spanish fashion is gaining positions on the world stage.
Fashion is constantly changing and new trends often lead us to spend money we do not always have in order to be "up to date". Of course, not everyone has the budget of celebrities to be shopping every day, making big brands seem like an unattainable dream. But it does not have to be this way, on the contrary. The key is to invest in the pieces that are truly worth it and it´s very important to define what these clothes must look like for each person to later dedicate ourselves to get more accessories. We can not think of a super extravagant Moschino dress without having first a nice black or navy blue dress. The basic pieces of wardrobe ones are distinguished from person to person, according to their activities, tastes and of course ... budget but it is also important to clarify: dressing well is not a matter of money, it is about creativity. Certainly great things can be done with a "limited" budget taking into account that the only thing that has no limits is our ability to generate ideas and of course, to dare.
Carolina Herrera is one of the designers with whom you can count continuously to offer an elegant silhouette without any effort.
This year marks the 35th anniversary of Carolina Herrera in the world of fashion and her Spring-Summer collection, shown in Manhattan during Fashion Week was a smart and successful mix of before and now. This collection, divided into two parts is faithful to the brand Herrera, specially the casual collection where the designer paid homage to her traditional white shirt. This runway show consisted of six different looks, all centered around a formal white shirt, although each model had an accessory that differentiated them from the others and with the help of colorful stripes, oversized necklaces and western-style ties Herrera took the most outstanding points of her career and refreshed them for today's women, giving each look a fresh, dynamic and a different touch.
The formal part of the runway also possessed a casual appearance, an uncomplicated elegance without the need to be too detailed. In addition the fact that the designer was inspired by personal memories and flashbacks for the creation of the dresses made them much more memorable pieces. The best example of these memories becoming art was observed in a beautiful dress without shoulders, wrapped in the bust, in a graphic scheme of black and white, which was inspired by a gingham blouse that the designer used to wear all the time. In this collection, Herrera also revealed a series of white and black striped dresses that emphasized a night sophistication - although it was only 10 o'clock in the morning. Hair and make-up for the show had a similar feel, too. The models had their hair parted to one side and pulled back into a tight bun and their beauty aspect was perfectly minimalist.
It was not until the end of the show that Herrera took on a more contemporary style where the metallic embroidery that accompanied the designs were slim and stylized, the few jean dresses acquired violet and black colors which led to a rather relaxed look despite their weight. The designer took knits, tulle skirts and a simple white halter neck dress over a polo shirt to present the most youthful part of her collection; A collection that although it is framed in the past and in the memories of Herrera it felt quite current and modern.
An editorial in magazines in general, is the main story. Whether is in the form of an interview or a photo shoot, this story is located in the heart of the magazine and shapes the rest of it. In the Fashion industry the word Editorial is specifically used to call a photo session that tells a story generally within fashion magazines. Editorials have photographs of models or artists using clothing and accessories according to the theme and to give an idea of the history that the magazine wants to tell.
Fashion represents us, it shouts to other people how we are; Is the best form of expression that we have (that first impression people get from us) and therefore a fashion editorial goes beyond a simple photo shoot. Editorials are a source of inspiration for many people, since often these sessions of photos become pure art. Another interesting point is that thanks to the theme of each editorial, we can know the trends and the style of clothing that is fashionable, since the clothes of several designers are used while they coincide in the theme.
Let´s get real. For many of us that love fashion the best part of any award show is definetly the Red Carpet. And while I admit the I fell asleep during the Live Show (there´s going to be another blog post about that), the red carpet of the 2017 Golden Globes was one of my favorites; and while there were stars who missed their mark others made heads turn in their stunning looks. From bold color choices to head-to-toe metal the stars didn´t disapoint. Lily Collins, Felicity Jones and Zoe Zaldana chose light colors while Natalie Portman, Reese Whiterspoon and Viola Davis went for the citrus aspect and choose colors like bright yellow, orange and greens. Bold colors aside, stars like Priyanka Chopra and Ruth Neega pulled all the stops and chose sequined gowns in the colors of antique gold and grey silver for a more dramatic effect.
Here are my picks for the best dressed of the 2017 Golden Globes Awards.
From the the Grammy´s to the Oscars, Awards season is that time of the year where everyone in the acting or music industry is recognized for the hard work and enthusiasm they have for bringing stories to life. But award season is more than that; for example this is also my favorite because of all the amazing fashion and styles we get to see from the stars on the Red Carpets.
The Golden Globes are the first event of the season, the night where the best of film and television are honored for their work and while the show itself will be great, I´m sure most of us that love fashion can not wait to see what the stars and nominees have in store for us, stylewise.
Probably my favorite part of the night, glitz, glamour and fashion however some stars where more fortunate than others when it came to what they were wearing, scroll down to see my list of the best and worst dressed of the night.
Leggings! They’re Taking Over!
There’s no other way to put it: leggings are the new jeans. Remember a few years back when all you would see was an ocean of blue jeans? Now, if you take another look, you’ll see an army of black leggings marching out to the horizon. Leggings are popular because one, they are comfortable and warm and two, they show off the shape of the wearer’s legs. Although leggings are usually black, some people have flouted tradition and created some truly stunning leggings.
