Hello Charmers and welcome to this week´s post! Today we are talking about Bullet Journals AKA as my favourite organizing tool ever. Now, I took the plunge into bullet journaling last year and it´s safe to say I love it, especially considering that my track record for staying with planning systems isn´t that great. In this post, I´m taking a look at what I´ve learned, why it works for me and my favourite tips & tricks for styling it.
What is a Bullet Journal?
The Bullet Journal is a system that´s taking internet geeks and organising wizards by storm, after being created by Brooklyn-based designer Ryder Carroll. Basically, it’s a modern journal – a place to pour all your thoughts, organise yourself and also involve your creative side.
Why a Bullet Journal and not a normal planner?
Is not that I’m not grateful for digital planning resources but there’s something old-fashion and amazing about a blank paper. Researchers also say that creativity is good for our brain and there is also the fact that using a fountain pen is extremely fun (at least for me!)
How to get started?
Bullet journaling itself is simple, but getting started was not an easy task and I know I’m not alone—many people find that first blank page of a journal to be absolutely terrifying. For me, the most important part was to remember that my journal wasn´t going to be a work of art, my journal was going to be a record of my life, and no life is perfect without a few mistakes so don´t get hung up on making it perfect or getting it exactly right, you´ll figure it out as you along. Here are a few tips to make your journey in Bullet Journaling (no pun intended) a little less stressful and a lot more fun:
What to put in your Journal?
I’ve learned, after a lot of trials and errors, that as far as my own journal goes, less is more, because “more” can make the journal seem clustered and disorganized. Over the past year I’ve learned that if I make my bullet journal too complicated, I stop keeping up with it, and that is so not the point of keeping a journal. Bear in mind you can write anything you want in your journal but in my opinion these are the most important points you must cover:
Making your Journal look good:
I care about my journal being organized and I also like it being pretty. I´m a very creative person and art is one of my passions, I also love looking at all the gorgeous bullet journals on Instagram, but let’s be honest— most of the time the fancy Instagram inspiration is just that: inspiration. Bullet journaling is more than a hobby, it´s a way for me to keep my life organized, it´s a tool that helps me get stuff done, track important things and capture memories and notes. I bother with this because creativity makes me happy, and it’s weirdly soothing to pull out a coloured pen and get artsy.
Tips & Tricks I´ve Learned:
This is all for this week´s post and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did writing it! Also, I hope this post serves as a guide if you want to start bullet journaling and if you do remember, a bullet journal doesn’t have to be an art project to be a perfect. But its okay if being creative motivates you, journaling its all about finding your balance, a place where you can go crazy with creativity, a place where you can collect your thoughts. And if that means that it’s not perfect, it´s okay, enjoy it: it works, and it’s all yours.
